CTIS Research Seminar - Partnerships in International Higher Education: Culture and Strategy

About

This presentation examines the dynamic intersection of culture and strategy in international higher education partnerships. Drawing on Jonas Stier’s work of internationalisation ideologies, idealism, educationalism, and instrumentalism, it examines how strategic agendas shape the motives of dominant 'sender' institutions over 'receiving' partners. The talk addresses how researcher and institutional positionality (e.g., Global South and North dynamics) shapes cross-cultural communication, power asymmetries, and differing interpretations of "equal" collaboration. By contrasting market-driven models with politically symbolic ones, it shows how 'Varieties (and perhaps cultures) of Capitalism' govern global academic initiatives and partnerships.
