Chris McCarty University of Florida Foundations of Personal Network Analysis and Recent Applications Personal network analysis, sometimes called egocentric network analysis, is a subfield of social network analysis focusing on a respondent (ego) and their network members (alters). With this approach the researcher uses the compositional and structural properties of the personal network to predict outcomes for respondents, increasingly health outcomes. This talk will introduce you to personal network methods, present both theoretical and methodological challenges, and provide a few examples of current research using this approach. Students will learn current methods for collecting and analyzing personal network data. While familiarity with social networks is helpful, it is not necessary as a prerequisite for this talk.
