Speaker: Bill Lionheart (University of Manchester) Title: At last an SVD for EIT Abstract: 40 years ago when I started working on Electrical Impedance Tomography I thought I should look for an analytical form of the singular value decomposition of some simplified linearized case. I would like to report some modest progress..... An interesting feature is that the case I chose to look at turns out not to be compact and has a purely continuous spectrum. But it does have an explicit diagonalization. I think there are some interesting lessons for using a numerical SVD of a discretized problem to understand the underlying continuum problem.
