About

Curious about how the science that powers the Sun might one day power the world? And how your research area, whatever it is, could lead to a career in fusion energy? Fusion is one of the most exciting and interdisciplinary industries emerging today, and it needs people from every subject. This webinar is designed to introduce students from all backgrounds to the fundamentals of fusion energy and the wider opportunities it offers across research and industry. You'll hear directly from senior figures at the UK Atomic Energy Authority and one of the UK's leading fusion startups and leave with a clearer sense of how your subject could shape the future of energy. Event details Date: Friday 16th October 2026 Time: 2pm BST Duration: One hour Platform: Microsoft Teams (link sent after sign-up) Our speakers STEM breakout: Dr Joe Milnes, Executive Director for Engineering and Computing, UK Atomic Energy Authority. Joe will share the bigger picture of where fusion is heading, and the range of career paths available across engineering, physics, computing, and beyond as fusion moves from research toward commercial power. Medical and biological sciences breakout: Dr Mikhail Gryaznevich, co-founder of DANTE Fusion and formerly of Tokamak Energy. Mikhail will introduce fusion's non-energy applications, including its role in producing medical isotopes for cancer imaging and treatment, and other emerging areas at the intersection of fusion and healthcare. Humanities breakout: Mr Justin Kingsford, Chief Operating Officer, UK Atomic Energy Authority. Justin will discuss the range of non-STEM roles fusion depends on, from policy and regulation to organisational leadership and international collaboration, and why the industry increasingly needs people from a wider range of backgrounds.
